Top Tips for BC Travellers
You’ve booked your flight, packed your bags, planned your trip but have you made note of the following tips from expert BC travellers:
1. If you get a chance, do visit a local farmer’s market to enjoy some fresh fruits and vegetables. Nothing beats an authentic meal made with local ingredients. Most BC cities and towns organize farmer’s markets from April till November. However, if you are on a tight food budget, shop bulk at stores like Superstore or Safeway to get the best value for your money.
2. As a good Samaritan, you might feel bad for teenagers asking for ride on the side of the roads but take our advise and do not give ride to hitch hikers.
3. You never know what awaits you on your BC road trip. E.g. beautiful back roads of BC might beckon you so you might decide a little detour, you can get stuck in traffic or gas stations between cities might be non-existent. So be prepared and don’t head off on BC roads without checking your gas tank first.
4. Since BC has so many lovely Golf Courses, you will surely be tempted to Golf. However, don’t decide on Friday that you want to Golf your weekend away. You might find yourself out of luck so book your tee times early to avoid disappointments later.
5. Many BC hotels offer special senior rates so if you are travelling with someone over 65 then don’t forget to take advantage of Senior rates.
6. Although it is customary to tip 15% at bars and restaurants in BC, you are not obligated to. For e.g. if your waiter is rude, inattentive or simply bad then you can tip less than 15% or may decide not to tip at all. Tips are also expected by tour guides, taxi service drivers, spa treatments and haircuts. You should tip $1-2 CAD per item of luggage to porters at airports, railway stations and hotels.
7. BC’s legal drinking age is 19 and photo identification is required to purchase alcoholic beverages. Also, note that do not operate or be in the control of a vehicle under alcoholic influence.
Wishing you Bon Voyage. Hope you enjoy your trip to British Columbia.
